Usually, with the old folks there is resistance because they either know everything or nothing. Someone telephoned my elderly aunt for information about the family. She cursed them out and hung up. I was very surprised when I heard this, as my aunt talked non-stop about family history. My aunt said, "She said she was looking for information about the family. But I know what she really wanted to know. She wanted to know who her father was. Well I'm not going to tell her." Luckily, she told me a lot.
Now all I have left is the youngest siblings of both my grandmothers. Neither of them know anything. And it is because as the youngest they were never called upon before to talk about family history. They always left it up to their older siblings. And, as it turned out, they didn't pay much attention when the olders were talking about it either. Also, I've noticed a lot of older people get very anxious when asked about specific dates. J.
