I really like Cheri's ideas. I am going to try some! I am finding that there are family members who have information, I have to keep digging until I find who they are. Sometimes they share and sometimes they won't. I wonder sometimes about that. With a relative, (she is the youngest of the oldtimers of the family, the only one who seemed to have documents, etc.) I have been very generous and made a "book" of the ship's manifests, originals of documents that I paid Joao Ventura to send to me. Then all of a sudden, she won't talk to me. No idea why. Then I talked with a cousin of my mother. She said that this relative had contacted her and told her that I was saying that our family was related thru a certain line and it was not true. The cousin had the relative give her a copy of the document. It was one of the baptismal records that I had given showing a certain line. The cousin had her husband and another relative go over this baptismal record and translated it beyond what Joao Ventura had done. My relative did not like that what Joao had given me was true! The cousin gave me a copy of the letter and translation that they had given to the relative. The date of the letter was close to when this relative stopped talking with me. I have no idea why. She is in poor health and I am afraid I will lose her, but there is nothing I can do.
Joao Ventura told me a few years ago that there are several people on this list who are related to me. Yet whenever I post information on lines, no one responds that it is their line, too. So why does this happen? At one point in the past I put my whole file online. One of the things that I would treasure are photos of the people on the Islands still who are relatives and the photos of those who have already passed. I have shared with people on this list photos that I got for them and done research for them when there was a very small link. I give copies of documents that I paid for or that I have gone out and gotten. I would love to see the faces of those ancestors that I am trying so hard to connect with other ancestors. One person has been very genereous and looked up films for me, even though the connection is thru her husband and is very small.
