Of that time that is all true from our vantage point but that's not how
their reality in fact was.  I'm not so sure I would put too much value on
Joao's goodwill without studying a little deeper...ie what was Dominga's
age when she had the baby....could she have been a minor that was taken
advantage of?

I also figure out what it was the priest wrote after Domingas' Father's
name; Antonio de Sousa "que D'aya".  Extended is "que Deus haja" literal
translation "that G-d has or whom G-d has"  It means her father was
deceased.  Sabina was orphaned and it looks like Joao did the right thing
by her either by his own will or by means of some protective relatives ;)
