Hi all! Thanks so much! Yes, Carrie is my sister and Bob is my father, but 
this family history was always a mystery until recently ... the 1896 Ellis 
Island information mentioned above is something that I haven't seen, though 
it's someplace to look, definitely!

Thank you for sharing the UPEC information - there is so much that I don't 
know!! 

Alex was in Sausalito in 1910 - they had my grandfather in 1909. I 
submitted a request for my grandfather, Edward's birth record from Marin 
County, and received a "File Not Found" response. I will try San Francisco, 
because I would really like to have that ... 

The church where he was baptized, Star of the Sea Church in Sausalito, told 
me to go in person and I can look at the books, but they don't have the 
resources to look up genealogy requests. :-/

Can't wait to meet all of you in SLC - I bought my plane ticket and have my 
room reserved! Sending the check for the registration on Monday.
