Why don't you share with us exactly what those words were? > The comment is not really true or illuminating. It is true that the Wahhabis adhere to the Hanbali school. Whether or not Ibn Hanbal should be blamed for that is another question. Most Saudis insist on being called Hanbali Muslims, not Wahhabis. But I would agree that Muhammad ibn Abdu'l-Wahhab had some ideas that were closer to the Kharijites than Ibn Hanbal. > I don't see why you are having so much trouble with this. I'm pointing to precisely the opposite, the fact that as you are clearly indicating Sunnis feel *obligated* to gloss over their own history if it involves someone they consider a Companion. You can't do history when confined by these kinds of constraints. Sometimes good people can have a > difference of opinion and end up fighting one another. I would agree, but I don't think that can be said to apply to Muwayyih. I'm more willing to give Abu Bakr and 'Umar the benefit of a doubt (though I think Iskandar would disagree with me on this point.) > I also am a little surprised by your approach because I think that > what I'm saying doesn't seem all that different from the Bahai concept > of the sin-covering eye. As I said, I don't think it applies to dead people. If it did we couldn't write history. warmest, Susan __________________________________________________ You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[email protected] Unsubscribe: send a blank email to mailto:leave-534498-27401.54f46e81b66496c9909bcdc2f7987...@list.jccc.edu Subscribe: send subscribe bahai-st in the message body to [email protected] Or subscribe: http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/all_forums/subscribe?name=bahai-st Baha'i Studies is available through the following: Mail - mailto:[email protected] Web - http://list.jccc.edu:8080/read/?forum=bahai-st News (on-campus only) - news://list.jccc.edu/bahai-st Old Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] New Public - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
