Dear Gilberto,

My basic argument is that Naison's argument is inadequate because both
Islam and Christianity have stated the same thing but it has not
protected women from oppression in either religion.

Yes, I realize that. But we claim to be saying something different
about women's roles than those other religions. If in fact we are
saying the same thing then our claim is bogus.

Granted. But Baha'is don't go around bragging that we get to eat pork
the way we brag about the equality of men and women. In fact, if you
push us we will tell you it is best not to eat any meat period!

What I'm saying is that there needs to be some substance behind
something we have made a cardinal principle.

I believe that the Qur'an as compassionate and just towards women as
was possible at the time.

warmest, Susan
