Hi Venkat!

Good to hear from you!!

This is how I connected the Multimeter:-

1) Removed the red cable from the battery, while leaving the black one
connected as it is.

2) connected the red lead of the multimeter to the red cable and the
black lead of the multimeter to the black cable.

3) DC voltage reading = 3 volts

4) Just to check the multimeter, I then connected it to the battery
and read the voltage of the disonnected battery. It is giving 11 volts
(it is currently discharged, as it is not getting charged.)

How does one do the genuinity test? I picked the part from Gautam
Automobiles, GTKarnal road, Delhi 33. This place is an authorised
Bajaj outlet (unless they have been derostered and I am unaware). They
do have the Bajaj Board outside. They gave me proper printout - cash
memo, and I have taken parts from this place earlier too. The part
came packed in a Bajaj box (Blue coloured with the barcode sticker
etc.) The box has 2 stickers:-

1) White sticker which has a barcode and part number DJ201016 SF-114
written on it.
2) Yellow sticker, which says : - Bajaj Auto Limited Regd Off: Akurdi,
Pune 411035. It has a Bajaj logo which is kind of hologramish. On the
left edge of the sticker, there is a golden hologram across 1/2 a
centimetre which says Bajaj and has the logo of the company, while
showing 'Genuine Part' if seen at another angle. The sticker also has
the part number written on it and says 'Regulator' and qty 1 no.. It
also has a barcode and says the price as 342.00 and pkg mth : Aug 09.
It also says that for consumer complaint contact officer - customer
care (spares) phone (020) 27472851 email:
[email protected]

I DID NOT HAVE TO SCRATCH ANY CARD. I remember earlier, sometimes I
had to scratch a card and discover the Bajaj logo.

>From the above, does it seem that that part is genuine?

can a new part be spoilt by the current being fed into it by the coil
- if the coil is faulty?

Ciao // Rajeev.
