>Submenus would be an additional menu level -> makes the whole thing >tedious to use, up to 5 more klicks until you find an album > 5 more clicks? Isn't it one more click to go one level deeper?
I think it would be better for random access casual scrolling through a list, you're more likely find what you want nearer the top. In a way, I don't really see the point of ordering by album title. If you know what you are looking for, it's quicker to search? I often sort by year (although it would be better if it was year descending) to see a time-ordered list of album releases. >Subcategories (just sorting) would only leave you with 3 indexable >categories. Have like 25 albums under the artist, then 57 compilations >for the same artist plus 23 appearances on other artists' albums (I have >artists like that; especially for composers) and you end up with a huge >list through which you can scroll. > Most artists don't have too many albums to worry about shortcuts (although I do have 296 albums currently in my library for Tangerine Dream, with another 50 or so CDs that I still need to rip!). Maybe if regular albums were listed first, the shortcuts could work only on the secondary sort within the regular albums list, with another shortcut taking the user to the top of "other" albums. >If you don't know what you are looking for, it's probably OK. >But if you are looking for a specific album it's hard to filter. >If you use alphabet sorting you can jump immediately to e.g. "k" and >skip the first half of the list. Especially important on ip3k >Squeezeboxes with the single- or dual line displays where your option >would be hardly usable. > There's a Sort By option, so with a new "Sort By Role, Album" option, no-one need lose out. You could still sort by album title for iPeng, for example, not include a "Sort by Role, Album" option if you think it wouldn't be usable. What happens already for the other Sort By options? eg. Sort by "Year, Artist, Album"? The shortcut bar in Web UI show years. _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
