>> >Submenus would be an additional menu level -> makes the whole thing >> >tedious to use, up to 5 more klicks until you find an album >> > >> 5 more clicks? Isn't it one more click to go one level deeper? >> >Sure. And if the Album you are looking for isn't in the first list you >back out and go to the second one. And the 3rd. And then it's between >one and 5 clicks more. I said "up to". > I'm not saying I favour the idea particularly, just interested why you thought it would be 5 more clicks. I don't see that happening myself, more often 1 extra click, because you'd know whether you are looking for a regular album or a guest appearance.
Typically, a user would want to browse regular albums, so would go down the correct path. Could even consider putting these regular albums in the top level, with a sub-menu at the bottom of that list for guest appearances, such that the majority of the time there are no extra clicks. >With the too much exact and slow search in LMS: no. It is if you know >exactly what you are looking for but then I'd not go through artists but >Albums, faster. But if you know that you are looking for an album of >which you almost know the name and you know the artist, then an >alphabetical list you can quickly scroll through an index is a fast >choice. Search is on a sub-string, doesn't need to be exact. What if you know most of the title, but not the first word? I go browsing through artists or albums lists, or any browse list really, when I don't know what I want to play. I often play a regular album by an artist. If I do know what I want to play, then I search for the album title. >I mean, we can discuss for another year about what the best way to sort >three albums into a category is for sure :P > I don't mind the current functionality, but lots of people say they don't want guest appearance albums muddled up with regular albums. If "Sort By Artist, Album" actually worked, I'd be pretty happy (I think it's ignoring Album Artist, just using Artist or nothing at all?). At least all regular albums for an artist would be grouped together in a flat list. >Configuration options are already something for only 5% of all users. >Tell me what the option is that 90% of all users want, I'm going to >ignore the others. > It seems to me that this is a pretty classical way of ordering and browsing through the works of an artist. The benefit of digitising a collection is to be able to present it in different ways for browsing. People traditionally order their CD's by artist and then perhaps by album title, year of release. Some put CD singles together. There's no right or wrong way, but constraining this because it's hard to see how shortcuts would work seems to miss the point a bit that users either don't want the guest appearances in the albums list at all, or move them out of the way. >That's the problem: I can do so in the few menus iPeng creates itself >and iPeng is probably the only App doing this at all. >All other Apps (and menus) will simply get something that looks >incredibly unsorted to most users. > How about some other form of visual clue, such as display guest appearance albums in italics, or put a symbol at the start of the item (for display purposes only, not changing the sort or shortcuts). _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
