Submenus would be an additional menu level -> makes the whole thing tedious to use, up to 5 more klicks until you find an album Subcategories (just sorting) would only leave you with 3 indexable categories. Have like 25 albums under the artist, then 57 compilations for the same artist plus 23 appearances on other artists' albums (I have artists like that; especially for composers) and you end up with a huge list through which you can scroll. If you don't know what you are looking for, it's probably OK. But if you are looking for a specific album it's hard to filter. If you use alphabet sorting you can jump immediately to e.g. "k" and skip the first half of the list.
