As for Tiger support, well, Tiger is legacy. And it's basically impossible to keep supporting more than 2 OS versions, the API starts to deviate too much. For instance, Apple often replaces API in one OS versions and deprecates/removes the old API in the next. We once tried to support 3 OS versions at once and it was a very bad experience that I really, really, don't want to repeat. Moreover, it's impossible to test, because I can't run Tiger anymore (and don't say you or someone may test, that's not sufficient). Moreover, supporting old OS versions with old API basically halts development of new features. In short: it's really practically impossible to support Tiger any longer. Why don't you press the developers of this simulation software to stay up-to-date? They're really very far behind if they're classic. And there is absolutely no relation between OS version and the bibtex format. If we ever will ditch the bibtex format for a native file format, that will be a new app called something like BibDesk 2.0, but that development is basically separate from OS support. Anyway, chances for that are extremely low, as this project is mostly dead and there's nobody around working on it.
