I thought I read somewhere that even the utilities don't think that power will be "needed" until 2016 or some time like that. As anyone who sees that the fixed charges on their utility bill make up well more than 60% of their bill will know that the gluttons are rewarded. Beats the water utility, where fixed charges make up almost 90% of my water bill.

Um, has anyone considered using *less* electricity as an option for obviating the need for any route?

That is to say, have any of the utilities actually implemented a "green pricing" scheme to reward those doing the right thing and penalizing the gluttons?

Some on this list already know about the discussions regarding the new high voltage power lines that are proposed for Dane County. For those not aware, several state trails are possible corridors. Other possible locations are along the Beltline, but through the Arboretum, and south of Madison through rural areas.

If you are interested in learning more, there is an article in today's State Journal that lists all the public meetings:

Also, here is the web page for American Transmission Company, the company that will be putting in the power lines. The maps are a pain to read, so not all that useful for figuring things out, but it gives you an idea what the projects are about.

I got a notice of the May 23 & 25 meetings (not sure if because of my elected position or as a Bike Fed employee.) Anyone can come to those meetings, and they will be the first opportunity to see the proposed routes. There will be more public open houses in June around Madison, Fitchburg, Verona, Stoughton, and Oregon.
