Re:

Unfortunately, ATC's "little motivation" is to BUILD MORE POWER LINES. Remember, they're
a for-profit corporation, guaranteed by law to get a 12% return,

None of that is news to me. But think about it. They get the 12% return no matter what. That is, they get the 12% return whether they build more power lines or not. Thus, in theory, ATC's motivation should be neutral. The only variable in this equation is individual & community will; i.e., exactly how HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHRD the community wants to be in preserving its own well-being. If they are wimpy & lack determination, they get ugly power lines. If they are far-sighted & determined, they get to preserve great neighborhood & natural aesthetics. In both cases, they also get a profitable corporation. Should be a win-win. Furthermore, no one loses with smart energy use. (I'd say it is time for our community leaders to read *Natural Capital*--Hawken, Lovins & Lovins jeremiad about how to have a better, more vibrant economy *and* society by using resources in non-wasteful ways. I love jeremiads.)

The upshot: It only looks like a nail if we let the hammer do the thinking for us.

And, oh, this is plenty on topic because some key bike routes have been targeted for the line. Basically every community (bike or whoever) should be outraged by this.....And then they should question their own consumption habits & do something about it.

fed TO its shareholders,
but fed entirely BY us, the ratepayers. So once again, to them, "everything looks like a nail" - the solution to every electric energy problem, to them, is MORE power lines. I would trust them with your idea about as far as I could throw one of their poles (while
riding my three-speed - there, that gets us back on topic, right?).
