Here's one that most bikies should be able to get behind, although there may be
some squawking from the Big Gubermentphobes.

Chicago has been doing this for years and quickly paid off the cameras. Of
course the ultimate goal is to rein in the scofflaws and improve safety, not to
make money. Safety apparently isn't the DOT's main concern. According the
article below DOT admits that the program would improve safety, but appose it
due the expense.

Some may recall that this technology was banned in the state some years back.

MADISON, Wis. -- Say cheese, red-light runners.

State lawmakers are pondering a bill that would let Wisconsin municipalities
use cameras to crack down on the thousands of roadway renegades who plow
through intersections.

Violators would get tickets mailed to their door.

The bill's supporters said the measure would send a signal to lead-foots to
slow down.

No organization has officially registered with the state Ethics Board to lobby
against the bill.

But the state Department of Transportation legislative liaison Mitchell Warren
said the agency opposes the measure.

The D-O-T believes the cameras could improve safety, but would drive up the
agency's expenses.

Warren said the agency electronically deducts merit points for citations.

But the bill doesn't allow such deductions for camera citations, forcing D.O.T.
workers to block the deductions by hand.
