That's something I've never gotten to work - .xinitrc.
Yes, it is executable (permissions 700). Starting X,
on any of the distros I've tried (stock installs of
RedHat 6.0-7.1 or Mandrake 8.0 or Slackware 7.0),
either ignores the .xinitrc, chokes on it, or ONLY
starts that program (but I might not have used an &, I
forget).
It's just downright frustrating when all the docs,
readmes, guides, and HOWTOS say what to do and I can't
get it to work. So I've been in the habit of just
running what I need after I start X.
No, I don't log in as root, and yes, the script works
if I execute it on its own using normal logins. So
I'm just mystified.
Would someone out there let me know I am not the only
one experiencing this?
