First, don't put the list in both the to and cc fields.  To answer your
question, graphical logins generally do not use .xinitrc, they use
.xsession instead.  You can, however, make a symbolic link to remedy this.
>From personal experience, .xsession is much more finicky about permissions
as well.  This might not be your problem, but its worth a try.
