The reason I asked is that the LCD crystals (I'm assuming you used a digital DVM) may be funky at 2 degrees as in frozen and not reactive. -Kevin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 15:03:11 -0800 From: "Peter N. I bought the Dension ICE-Link iPod interface, which basically makes a current-model Apple iPod act like a BMW CD changer. So much so that if you have a BMW CD changer, you'd have to disconnect it; you can't use both. http://icelink.densionusa.com/ This gizmo is $199, and for BMW installations you'll probably need a Sony RC87 UniLink extension cable, which is pretty difficult to find. The ICE-Link is easy to install, at least, and somewhat cheaper than a CD changer, which holds only 6 CDs vs. the iPod's 1,000 CDs worth of music. Like the Phatnoise, the ICE-Link can't feed disc and track title information back to the head unit. Unlike the Phatnoise, you don't get audio announcements of this information, either. But the iPod display and buttons still work, so you can see the info there. Your steering-wheel controls provide track-forward, track-back, fast forward and rewind functions. There's no disc-forward or disc-back control, and the 1-6 buttons don't have any effect on the iPod. Other than these limitations, it works fine in my E46 M3. I even made my own iPod holder dimensioned to accommodate the DLO silicone-rubber sleeve I use on my iPod. The holder bolts in just forward of the e-brake handle, to the lower right of the shifter, about the only place near the driver where it's visible yet out of the way of everything. I built in an iPod dock connector at the bottom of the holder, so the iPod charges properly while it's in there. Note that the Dension unit makes its audio and control connections with a cable to the TOP of the iPod, so the dock connector is just for power, and you'll have a cable end flapping around in the car when the iPod isn't installed. Naturally, I made the holder out of titanium and carbon fiber. I showed it to execs from Apple, Dension, and DLO at MacWorld Expo last week; everyone loved it, and some wanted me to make one for them. As I explained, building the holder took about 20 hours of hand work, so I figure if I get $1,000 each I can afford to make them for other people. No takers so far. :-) . png ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 17:49:03 -0600 From: Dennis Wynne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Dension ICE-Link vs. the Phatnoise MP3/WMA player Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Seems like it would be easier and cheaper to get the BlitzSafe CD changer aux/in interface and just hook up the ipod. If you have to use the display of the ipod you might as well use the controls on the front of it :-) You could also then hook up a CD or MP3 changer in the trunk too..... The problem could be due to a burned out brake light bulb, or to corrosion in the lamp socket, or to failure of the brake light switch mounted at the brake pedal in the footwell (a common problem). Now don't ask me why your OBC is speaking French to you...
