Unless you really need AWD, how about a youthful used E39 5 series wagon?
More spacious inside and nicer to drive than an X series, less expensive,
gets better mileage, not an SUV, yadda^3.

I gotta take issue with some of Neil's comments, having had both 525iTa's
and now an '05 X3.

1. My wife says the X3 is easier to drive and park (better
visibility, shorter turning radius and length and more height) than any car
she has ever had (Lexus GX300, 735ia, E34 525iTa, and E39 525iTa).
2. No comparison on traction even compared to a X5. The all-wheel drive is
the best there is.
3. She gets 25mpg (on trips) on her 3.0 X3 and got the same on both her
525iTa's.
4. Cargo area: May be a little shorter but it's taller...no big difference
that I can tell.

The only negatives about the X3 (for us) is that the suspension is too stiff
and the unpainted bumpers make it look cheap IMHO. Of ourse, I userd to be
the best friend of the guy who would touch up scraped bumpers at out
house,,,I an live with that.

Not to start another English usage thread, but allow
me to be technical for a moment... ;)

Wouldn't yadda^3 *technically* just be a single
'yadda'? I can't personally figure an objective
numerical value to represent 'yadda' so I figure 1 is
appropriate. In that case, 1^3 is still... 1, and
thus, only "yadda." So, I would say that yadda x 3 is
a better statement. ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

According to the society for the prevention of the abuse of mathematics:
The rules for order of operations require that the value of yadda^3=yadd(a^3).
Since a is the first letter of the alphabet, a=1. Since we know that
1^3=1x1x1=1,
 then yadd(1)=yadd.
therefore: yadda^3=yadd, not yadda yadda yadda

We are trying both Amsoil and Royal Purple. Both are much more
realistically priced, have great reputations and great support.

Yes, additives are different. But there is a federally mandated minimum
spec. OK, so someone's fuel might keep your engine cleaner, some might not.

Kathy's 2000 Tahoe has been run mostly on BP (Amoco) 87 octane. It does not
exhibit the "piston slap" that most other current Chevy V8's have and it now
has 57K miles.
Fuel? Maybe, but more likely because it's driven hard, real hard. (It is
Kathy's, afterall)

Well, all comments are void if we're talking about people/gas stations/fuel
companies that are flaunting the law. It think that's not a wide spread
problem.

As to fuel below "standards", don't forget that BMW has now forced change in
US fuel standards TWICE. In the mid 80's and mid 90's. Voluntary standards,
I believe, but still, major changes in how fuel is produced.

Check with Kathy, I think you mean flouting the law. Maybe you were just
lucky with that Tahoe.

Subject: <E36> small patch of film on interior windshield
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hey all,

I think I've addressed this before, but I don't think
I really got any input on it, so I'll try again. On
both my old E36 325 and my current M3, I get a bit of
a splotchy film on the windshield, especially on very
hot days. The fact that it happened to both my old
car and the current one tells me that it isn't very
likely a problem with a leaking heater core or
anything (I've experienced that already anyway in my
old E30 318 and this isn't like that).

The film usually shows up only near the bottom of the
windshield, close to the defrost vents. Does anyone
else have this problem? It suddenly dawned on me the
other day that it could be the Lexol I used on the
dashboard, but I'm seeking to find if it is a common
E36 problem or one I only experience.

Thanks guys,

Brian

Are you sure it's on the inside? If you run the AC through the defrost
vents a little, the windshield will condense some water on the outside.
