Real estate agent killed in crash
By GERALD WITT
Danville Register and Bee
Saturday, October 29, 2005

DANVILLE, Va. - Commercial real estate agent and development advocate David
Joseph Macpherson died on Friday in an auto racing accident at New Hampshire
International Speedway when his 1993 BMW 325is hit a wall.

"It was at the end of a straightaway, going into NASCAR turn one," said Joe
Marko, director for the Boston chapter of BMW Car Club of America, which
hosted the race in Loudon, N.H. He said the impact was a "high G incident."

"In the history of BMW CCA we've never had a fatality," Marko said. Since
1969, the club has held driver training and race events across the country.
Saturday's race event, Marko said, included a memorial lap run backwards by
the racers on the road track followed by a moment of silence on pit row
during which drivers shut off their engines.

According to his friend Del. Danny Marshall, Macpherson led his division in
points earlier this summer, but the race didn't stop at the track.

"He's competitive whether in business or economic development or
personally," Marshall said.

Macpherson, 55, was president of Macpherson & Co., Inc., a commercial real
estate firm. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Jan. 6, 1950, and moved to
Danville in 1989.

Marshall said that Macpherson was also key to development in the region.

"He just got back from a 10-day economic development trip to Japan," he
said. "He's always trying to help the economy here by bringing jobs on the
statewide level. He knew all the people that could bring jobs here."

He was a past president of the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce and served
on the Site Selection Committee of the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber
of Commerce as well as worked with the United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania
County, and The First Tee, a youth golf/character education program.

Yep, frequently but not always for at least the last couple of weeks.

Hi,

I just bought a 95 M3. I still have my stock 15"
wheels from my 96 328i, will these fit on the M3, or
is the smallest rim diameter 16"?

Also, can anyone explain to me the functions of the
rotary knob on the HVAC that controls the fan? There
is a 0 at the bottom, then a gradually increasing
circular triangle, then the numbers 1-4. I started
reading the manual, and it mentions something about an
electronic heater?

Thanks,

Paul

Certain, specific 16s will fit. Check before buying. Problem is caliper
clearance. I have a set of Mille Miglias that fit OK.

Um...the futher clockwise you turn it...the harder the fan blows? unless you
have a bad fan resistor.

Manual? Yeah, and you can read about the variable speed interval wipers, too.

Marc,

I guess my question was more specifically to the
region between the 0 and the 1. What is this region,
and how is functionally different than the 1-4 region
(which are clearly increasing fan speeds, 1 being the
lowest and 4 being the highest)? The manual mentions
something about an electric heater, but only in
reference to the 9 o'clock position.

Thanks,

Paul

Between 0 and 1 the knob is supposed to increase fan speed in micro increments.
The upper Dash vent will provide fresh air in flow mode without the fan on,
and will only provide heated air if you have the fan turned on. Perhaps that's
what they're alluding to in the manual

Subject: E36 Climate control repair/ safer method
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

The commonly referenced procedure, described at:
http://www.macadamizer.com/bmwfix.html
includes instructions to unsolder the old capacitor. Scraping,
unsoldering, and chasing out the holes to sufficient diameter is a
touchy task on a multi-layer resin coated board. It risks circuit board
damage, which may not be apparent from an external inspection. That's
why my first repair attempt failed.

A safer and easier way, which helped me succeed repairing a second
bad climate control unit is as follows:
+Rather than unsoldering, break the old blue plastic capacitor off the
top of the board by twisting it with a pair of nose pliers. This will
leave two exposed lead ends that used to protrude into the capacitor,
now exposed on the top side of the board.
+These exposed old lead ends are solid wire, difficult to solder new
solid leads directly to them, so tin a pair of about 2" long pieces of
thin stranded (24gauge) wire.
+Solder one end of each tinned wire to one of the exposed old leads
sticking out of the top of the board.
+Next, solder the other end of each tinned wire to an end of the new
capacitor.
+Secure the new capacitor in place with a dab of silicon rubber,
pressing it onto the top of the board. Wait a few minutes, reassemble,
and install.
+Enjoy having A/C and less than full blast heat again!

About capacitor values:
I bought two 0.47uF 100V electrolytic non-polarized capacitors. Both
tested in spec, at 0.49uF. The value needs to be at least .47. Up to
about 20% above should not be a problem.

1. Can you duplicate the loud condition by revving the car in neutral
while not moving? If so, have someone rev it while you listen in
various places - under the hood, near the tail pipes, etc. See if you
can narrow down possible sources. I have no clue on the lights. I
don't even know what an SES is. Do the battery and oil lights come on
when the car is idling and not moving?

2. Since the misfire happens on one off ramp, just use a different
off ramp.
Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."
Doctor: "Well, then don't do that."

Thanks, I'll be here all week. Try the veal and don't forget to tip
your waitress.
