By that, do you mean a young punk has more accidents when he carries
passengers?

I guess that is what they are saying, yes. My high school girlfriend was in
a very bad accident, and still has a disability from it to this day, 30+
years later. Four of them were in the car, the driver, age 16, tried to
pass three cars in a row on a two lane road, and ended up ramming the car
into a tree. Alcohol was involved. The inside of the car was not a pretty
sight, with people's hair stuck to the inside of the windshield, and worse.
Another guy I knew in high school flipped his car and was decapitated. Two
other girls I knew, both very pretty, got into an accident and ended up with
deep scars on their face, and the list goes on.... Only by the grace of God
was I not one of those people.

Yes, they get distracted and/or "dared" to do stuff or just want to
show off for the car load. Many states (including mine) have gone to a
graduated license plan for those under 18. In addition to must wear
seat belts, no cell phone talking, and limited hours - they only allow
a single passenger (with some exceptions). I think it is a good idea
- I know when I was under 18 my worst driving times were with a full
car of kids.

Anybody know if there are states moving to have (more/any) required
driver training before issuing a license?

Maybe you should start referring to it as the "emergency brake" instead of
the "handbrake". :)

There was no "emergency" until there was no brake...

When did BMW begin implementing adaptive-type programming for engines and
transmissions? I have a 1990 535i and I know the transmission is
electronically programmed, but does it adapt to my driving style? Same for
engine parameters? I am running a Jim C. chip, so does his program also
adapt?

Thanks,

I don't know about the transmission, but the engine "adaptation" is an
emissions thing, adapting to environmental conditions, not necessarily
"driving style".

Here are a couple of forum posts from elsewhere that I've had bookmarked
for a long time from JimC regarding some of this. While not exhaustive (no
pun intended :-)), it's a start:

If anyone has been listening...there is a judge that filed a lawsuit against
B-J because they did not give him the promised three minute spot on the
block. Additionally, an esteemed journalist was booted from the auction this
year for not agreeing with Craig Jackson. The aforementioned lawsuit spurred
an article about the B-J Scottsdale Auction in which allegations of fraud
(shill bidding, B-J running their own cars and buying them back to drive
prices up, etc) and other inappropriate practices at this auction. Well, I
went checking today, and found that the powers that be put the pressure on
the author of this article, and he has since pulled the article, as well as
issued an apology. I'm certain the B-J lawyers put a ton of pressure on this
journalist, as you can imagine...B-J is a powerhouse with lots of dough.
Personally, I've been waiting for something to come out about this
auction...I've heard stories here and there, and couldn't believe nobody has
yet to speak up about it. Anyone else have stories or has heard anything
interesting?

Alex

I don't know about the rest of you, but whenever they interview Craig
Jackson, he sounds like his put an eight ball up his nose.
