Might as well throw this out to see if anybody can provide a lead.  
Looking for a manual transmission E30, E36 or E28 for my son.  Best 
condition car in the neighborhood of $4,000 and close to Columbus,

Maybe check to make sure that the antenna lead for the FM is still 
connected. Unlikely that it would come out, but a possibility all the same. 
Otherwise, you have the signal amplifier and the radio as the only other two 
culprits... Hth
