Didn't get a lot of info ; ) but that's ok, I do appreciate the responses. Now I'm not looking for a slushbox car, manual only please. This would be a daily commuter for my wife so mods are not so much a concern. I'm looking for an E46 323 or 328 (is there a reason to buy one over the other?) in good shape. Must be a manual, no autos considered. Color is not really important but I'd prefer a more subtle color like silver or similar. Sport package is preferred but not required. Would MUCH prefer the nonwood interior trim but again, not a requirement. Extra wheels with snows is a big plus. Budget is around $9k. I live in Michigan near Detroit but am wiling to travel for the right car, probably not west of the rockies though. Any leads or info is appreciated. Cheers. I recently (last week) replaced my timing belt, tensioner, water pump, alternator and power steering belts. All went well and the car runs fine, but since the work I am getting a distinct noise or increase in noise once the car warms up and the engine is at 2500 RPM or higher. Let me put it another way... until the engine fully warms up, I have the standard E30 engine noises nice and smooth all the way up and down the RPM range. Once things are fully warm, I get the same standard noises, but there is an abrupt step or change in the sound at 2500 RPM. It isn't a buzz, but sort of a raspiness... it is hard to describe. I checked all the bolts to make sure they were tight. I tried playing with the accessories belt tensions (no change). I watched the timing belt at the idler with the engine running and it seems to be tracking correctly e.g. hasn't run off the front into the covers. I did bleed the cooling system when I did the work and I have heat even at idle, so I don't think it is air in the coolant, but maybe... Anyone else ever run into this? -- Joe -- Joseph M. (Based on build date) It also means that I have no experience with the transmission Bill commented on, but that Jack or any other potential buyer may want to check the build date of said 323i. I agree, the MT is the preferred transmission for most things. My wife tends to argue that with a 2 year old in the back seat and dealing with Metro Detroit traffic (but not anymore!) the auto has a significant advantage. Thus, we don't have MT's in all the cars. So how much work is it to swap the steptronic shift up/down to be consistent with our two auto-trans cars?
