It has some ergonomic issues and I also think the preamp outputs are weak since I must crank the volume to get any signal to my new basslink. Not into the whole Tokyo at night look, just want a clean head unit with good features/sound and both MP3 playback and Ipod compatibility... The ipod hookup is ~$50 and hooks up to the unit w/a cable and a small converter box which I stash in the glovebox. It works as well as anyone's I've seen and allows pretty much full control of my Gen2 15gb Ipod...charges it as well, which some usb type connections don't. And....you get HD radio as a bonus, which is GREAT. Can't beat the price either. Power is OK, I run the front speakers with the built-in amp and pipe pre-outs to an amp in the trunk running the rear speakers in my e30's w/premium speakers. Basically whenever it gets cold (below 35F or so) the idle dips down and recovers like it would with a bad ICV, except the ICV has been replaced. There is no set pattern to the surging, sometimes there will be a few cycles, sometimes just one. As of yesterday SWMBO tells me the low points got low enough for the car to die (if it was an automatic, I suspect the drag of the transmission would have made it start dying sometime ago). The idle issue is there in cold weather even after the motor is warmed up. We had the idle issue last winter and considered having a software update done (I think there is a TSB for this), but then it got warm out and the problem went out-of sight, out-of mind. Does anyone have specifics on the TSB or other ideas to check? Many thanks for any help and I apologize for needing to revisit last winter's issues based on my laziness...
