SCCA is Snell 2000. I think BMWCCA and PCA are the same, too. I like the idea of folks at assisted living doing wheelchair racing. =8^O Matt Murray ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Donate to the local chapter for riders to for occasional loaners at > autocross and other parking lot related safety schools. How do you know which hitch to buy for towing lets say a vehicle trailer? There are different "heights" and it's not clear which are correct. Or do I just get an adjustable one? -Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail communication is confidential and is intended only for the individual(s) or entity named above and others who have been specifically authorized to receive it. Find out what the height of your trailer tongue is when level and start from there. I would recommend finding a decent shop near you (you're in the SF south bay right? Try action trailers (cheap) or Orlandi (pricey) and they will get you set up with the right one. I had reported previously the following symptoms: 1. No mirror or window operation from the driver door 2. No driver door autolocking, occasional alarm disfunction 3. No auto seat position recall, memory buttons do not work 4. No turn signal clickety click in the dash but exterior operation fine 5. No high beam indicator in the dash but exterior operation fine 6. No reverse lights So, I'd asked for assistance here and a couple other places and basically got none. Well, in one other place someone told me they had similar problems and had something replaced but couldn't recall exactly what, some module in or near the seat. Valiant efforts to locate a receipt showing the part failed so I was still help shopping. I had one response here stating it was the "seat control module". Efforts to locate such a part also failed since there is no part which is really a seat control module...though there are severl modules in and around the seats. After perusing the Bentley and checking various wiring diagrams I felt it was basically one of 2 things and likely the first: 1. Driver door switch module 2. Seat memory module The former being more than twice as costly as the latter I was reluctant to simply purchase them both with the hopes that both had failed. Fortunately for me Mr. Rentler also owns a 740 which is of the vintage required for me to be able to parts swap. ; ) I only did the door module as this is a 30 second deal vs the seat which is not difficult but much more work. So by replacing my door module with his most of the functions returned to normal. So I bought a new one, installed it today. This addresses items 1, 2, and 3 above but not the rest. I'm thinking maybe relay and/or fuses for the others but I've yet to look at those further, probably this weekend. In order to provide some info that others may find during a search, here is some information on the whole thing. Later 740's, '96 and later, integrate the switch block and module together. '95's have 2 separate pieces so you could probably replace one vs the entire thing. This seems to cover 750's as well. The P/N of the item I replaced is 61 31 6 904 309. BMW NA retail on it is $340.75. I paid significantly less of course but that's at least a number to start with for comparison shopping. Another important note is that the E38 Bentley seems to be pretty good so far. I'll be using it again shortly so once again I'll report on it. Anyway, that's that for now. The remaining items for me to tackle are 4, 5, and 6 above and then my ever present oil leak (which I think I have narrowed down). Cheers. Jack Money '88 M3 Racecar '99 323i...tomorrow! That should be a pretty simple fix. As for #5...that could be something in the chinssssy high beam stalk to the side of the steering wheel. You generally don't have to replace these modules as the internal components seldom fail. The solder joints vibrate until they become intermittent, and you reflow the solder joints with a small wattage soldering iron and they work well for a few more years. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> After looking at a few and browsing an untold number of ads I have found my car with the help of fellow UUC'er Matt Weimer. Car is a '99 323i, white/black, 5M. Has only 87k on it, premium package, seems to be in pretty darn good shape except for one dent which I think I can make prety quick work of. Well under my target price to boot! I think this will make an excellent daily driver for my wife and she's pretty excited about it too, just gotta grab a nice set of Hakka's for winter. I am heading down tomorrow to pick it up, car is located just south of Indy in Greenwood, IN. Very excited! A very big thanks to Matt Weimer and Andy Messer for inspecting it for me. Oh, and to Matt again for sending me the ad as well! Cheers guys. Jack Money '88 M3 Racecar '99 323i...tomorrow!
