First of all, thank you everyone for your replies. I did not expect to 
receive so many in such a short time.
    With that said, most of them contain at least this question, so I felt as 
if it would be far easier for me to send a message directly to the list, rather 
than to each individual. I hope this is alright with you all.
    I have tried a service reset. It is the only one that elicits any response; 
the braille display clicks briefly, clearly attempting to display something 
(upon checking it I merely see some garbage test which quickly fades). However, 
no reset except the first one, that seemingly was the one to crash the system 
in the first place, produces a beep or other "normal" response. In fact most 
produce nothing at all.
