I would suspect the brew element solid state relay is sticking on.  I guess 
another possibility is that the output relay in the PID controller is sticking. 
Is the PID actually calling for heat when it passes the set point?  The PID 
display has a dot that lights up when it is calling for heat.

I am assuming you are referring to the brew boiler as that is the one whose 
temperature is indicated on the PID.  If it were a steam boiler problem then 
you would  have a) high pressure indicated on the steam guage and b) most 
likely steam being released from the safety valve.  Or am I missing something 
in your description of events?

I should add that I used to fix the commercial versions of these Expobars (and 
others - Synesso, LM) which are are virtually identical to the domestic 
machines in many respects.
