Tony, Todd is exactly right. The lever shaft builds up oil from coffee and gets smooth. Cafiza strips that out and makes it stiff. On my machine, the bushings around the lever (that get lubed by coffee oil) are now leaking every so slightly, and so my lever has that dry/stiff feel to it all the time, because water is moving through there constantly and stripping the oils out before they get deposited.
