My husband is like that on the beer. The only time he's ever tried beer
and liked it, he was in Germany. He doesn't like much alcohol anyway, but
doesn't have a problem with people around him drinking. (If he's having
one glass of Coca-cola for every beer or shot someone else is having, he
ends up extremely wired, starts getting ridiculous, and the folks who have
been drinking find him very amusing. And anyone willing to be the
designated driver is going to be reasonably popular....)

I like drinking wine socially, myself. But I don't ever have alcohol if
I'm with someone I know reasonably well who has a problem with alcohol
being consumed. This means, I don't drink in front of my
mother-in-law.... The time we were at a wedding reception where all the
drinks were being dispensed by a bartender, she got a little nervous about
the whole thing and I ended up standing in line with her and then ordering
for her. And after she'd got her Diet Coke (no Diet Dr. Pepper, alas), I
ordered myself a Shirley Temple. And that was one of the nicest Shirley
Temples I ever had, IIRC. (These days, I'm mostly just ordering water,
and lots of it....)
