I agree. Under Choice 1, the United States will greatly upset one of its closest Mulsim friends, Turkeys, as well as Iran. In addition, under Choice 1 the United States will march into a Sunni-Arab country and give almost all of its oil resources to non-Arabs and non-Sunnis. Many people are deeply concerned about a war on Iraq because of the effect that it might have on the "Arab Street" in the rest of the Middle East. Your Choice 1 sounds like the surest way to completely inflame the hatred of the average Arab against us. Choice Two may involve causalties, and a calculated bet that the Iraqi people will not support Saddam Hussein, but I prefer that option to the can-of-worms that partition of Iraq would open up.
