Good news.  I've just had a call from Naburn lockie;  It's all back 
together again and I'm booked in for 8.00am tomorrow.

Well, we had a bit of that trouble, nothing broken though.  It took us a 
little time to realise that the opening and closing winches were on 
opposite sides of the lock.  Obvious when you look at the layout, but 
you naturally tend to think that the controls nearest the gate are 
related to it.  Also cocked it slightly when locking down, as despite 
loosening the chain on the 'open' winch we still couldn't close the 
gate.  It finally dawned on me that maybe we had let too much out, and 
it was in a heap and had jammed, so I wound it all back on the winch and 
then release it slowly and all was fine.

The main contact was an older chap called Tony Martin.  He had another 
IWA chap with him to give him a hand, but I didn't get his name.  I gave 
  the other guy a ride up the Foss and back as he had never done it by boat.
