Ralph I have a tool that fits in the two little holes in the "C" ring and lets me open the ring wide enough so that I can slide the ring on the shaft very easily. The tool is common and can be purchased at any automotive store. I bought the my set (several differt sizes) from "Harbor Freight" a mail order distrubutor.
