It's still very difficult to get the retainer ring seated onto the shaft. As to whether to leave the ring on or off, I guess the question was more rhetorical. The clip does seem to be rather unnecessary since the NEW cover is solid Bronze and nothing is going to be loose or wobble inside the housing. The impellor sure wouldn't go anywhere. I was rather curious as to why several folks have the impression that the Nitrile rubber Impellor would :"wear" the cover. The SPEEDSEAL cover is three time thicker than the original cover .. And besides, the impellor "rubs" the old one anyway and It shows no wear ?? It seems to me that the Rubber would wear away and not the Cover ??? Oh well ..
