Have you set your CDROMs as ide-scsi devices? What does dmesg say about
them? Other than to say that I don't know of any problems in 2.4.0 when
I ran it, I would suspect that you are finding the devices as regular
IDE.

What are /proc/ide and /proc/scsi telling you?
