I have found quite a few systems which don't work.  That includes at least
8 different motherboards, 10 different processors (both intel and amd) and
models of cd-r/cd-rw from three different companies.  I work at a computer
shop and have access to a wide variety of stuff, depending on the mood of
my boss.

I'm making an assumption, but that assumption is based on more than a
single system.  I've seen this question addressed since at least very
early in the 2.3 series,  and maybe as early as 2.1.X (X > 100).
