Currently I am a computer programmer...I majored in History and Political
Science in college and now never get to use that knowledge, so here is my
two cents.

Disclaimer: no disrespect intended to the men and women who fought in the
Vietnam War. If the truth bothers you, don't read any more.

Yes, Clinton avoided the draft. Why? because, like many young adults of the
time, he didn't agree that a military option was the best option to defeat
communism, and, secondly, HE DIDN'T WANT TO DIE. Although America lost the
Vietnam conflict, we won the war. That's what those men and women fought
for in Vietnam, and on the college campuses in the 60's and 70's, and in the
military reserves in Texas, and behind the lines documenting the conflict.

You don't have to carry a gun and fight in combat to have honor or bravery
as a personal virtue. My mom's a teacher in an inner city high school. You
want to see someone with honor? Pay her a visit and the thousands of other
men and women who teach along side her, risking their lives every day. When
you do visit, keep in mind the only difference between her and a Vietnam
veteran is that she is only armed with her mind...she doesn't have a gun,
she doesn't have cover, she doesn't have a buddy to pull her out of a
foxhole. And you better believe the enemy is well armed with guns,
firearms, knives, bombs, etc.

Instead of worrying about whether or not the President of the United States
served in Vietnam, shouldn't we be more concerned about the fact that the
men and women who died in Vietnam are losing their legacy? What do we say
to the younger generation? They can't find Vietnam on the map...well that's
ok. What should worry us is that they can't find America on the map either.

Food for thought...anyone with a new topic? - SG
