Absolutely true - my mistake. But still, whether it's a federal mandate (which as you point out it can't be) or a decision by the collected electoral management bodies of the states in this day and age we should be able to have a standardized method of voting and ballot presentation.
Maybe it'll take a few years for all the states to agree on it, but it could be done. Why are the exit polls so wrong in Florida? But there is no such thing as a federal election, you have to remember, that if the state legislatures wanted to they could pick the electors each time. The Constitution states the following: Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector. It is your state that has given you the right to vote in the Presidential Election, they have given you the right to pick your elector. You should check out your states Party conventions where they actually pick the electors. Interesting stuff. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Davis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, November 06, 2004 3:44 PM To: CF-Community Subject: RE: Voter Fraud? Why are the exit polls so wrong in Florida? In my district in MA it's still Pen and Paper voting. Each district/state controls its own voting process. So while I can watch the aftermath carefully I've really no right to "protest" another districts use of whatever machines they want. Personally I'm all for country-wide consistency in, at least, Federal elections. But that's just not going to happen. As for the broader issue of fraud I don't think it has anything to do with the machines. Both parties have lower forms of life in them that do this. Throw away registrations, call voters with incorrect information about their polling place or times and misrepresent the other party. It's vile, sickening and should be prosecuted more often (I believe that federal election fixing is considered treason) but it's definitely not a solely Republican issue.
