If we had attacked Afghanistan BEFORE 9/11, would that have changed a thing? How does attacking them now "protect us". The government is saying to be alert. For how long can you maintain a heightened state of alert? Eventually, you can't. The Germans tried for years to stop the different resistance groups with no luck, though they caught and killed many people. They needed a military state. Look at Israel, they are struggling with it too. It will never go away as long as someone feels wronged, on either side.
We can protect our people better by some self reflection a bit closer to home. We can start by finding out how our investigative branches dropped the ball on this. There is like no accountability in Washington. If this one slipped by, how can we think more won't? How will a war in Afghanistan change that? It was not some military type trained, machine gun wielding guys that took over the flights. It was a bunch of guys that learned to fly in public flight schools, learned to fight in street fighting classes in Florida and look like clean cut students. Do the math. ANYONE could do this with proper planning and time. If it makes you feel better to kill people, fine, but don't dress it up and make is sound like that will stop this from ever happening again. A WAR on TERROR is like a WAR on VIOLENCE, it will never, ever go away as long as it is seen as a means to an end. -Gary > -----Original Message----- > From: Nick McClure [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Friday, November 02, 2001 3:15 PM > To: CF-Community > Subject: RE: How long? > > > Then it is the responsibility of the UN, as part of the UN America is > responsible for assisting if needed. > > When we are attacked we can take matters in to our own hands and do that > job as we see fit. > > I am not opposed to offering support to other countries.
