My GF (A teacher) was sort of amused by us (non-educator folk) discussing this issue. I suspect in the same way that we'd be amused if a bunch of teachers were discussing application architecture.
I'll throw a few things out there: A) In CT, teachers must create a video profile of themselves if they want to continue teaching. I think this happens in their second or third year. Its called a "BEST Portfolio" and must include ~15 minutes of uncut teaching. I would suspect that the teacher had the video camera in her room for a similar such thing. B) The teachers are not allowed to discipline the children. The only thing they can really do is appeal to a higher power (Principal). If they do otherwise, they'll probably lose their job and potentially leave themselves open to a lawsuit. C) If you can't reach the parents (or other appointed Guardian), who else are you supposed to call? If the police are notified, then DCF will get involved and the family will get the help they need (Theoretically). I got the impression from a few other posts in this thread that people feel it's the teacher's job to deal with things like these tantrums. It's the teacher's job to teach the children, and I think it's reasonable to expect that all students have a certain level of discipline before entering school. Ransacking the principles office would not constitute a reasonable level of discipline to me. >> Isaac wrote: >> incompetent assholes involved.
