I find that a bit hard to believe, but ok. We've had this discussion before and this is where we left it.
I can't prove otherwise, but I suspect it has a lot to do with where you live. I know the year I lived in the worst neighborhood of Gaithersburg, I was in court *all the time* because guess what, arrest 'em all and let the court sort out the difference applied to me to. I got arrested for going into the post office for a change of address card, I kid you not. Fortunately I was smart enough to get a lawyer and they threw it out of court, but before that happened they sure as shit did take my ass to Seven Locks, and the only reason Lara didn't go to foster care was that I had daycare set up and the director assured the policeman that she would take Lara home with her if it came to that. It didn't -- I was able to say I had been a resident of Montgomery County since 1977 and they released me on my own recognizance. But it kind of gave me a new perspective on who is a criminal and who isn't. Sometimes a criminal, my friend, is someone who cannot afford a lawyer. I was eligible for a public defender but they were not interested in anything other a guilty plea. I blew a month's budget on fighting the charge and won. But. I am white articulate and educated. I can find the law library and I am sometimes willing to cut my nose off to spite my face. I slept on a friend's couch for a month over that mess, which was probably just as well, since I haven't had the problem of people randomly arresting me since ;) But anyway. Your next point is that these people should be "brought to task for their crime." If the migra catches them, they get deported. Sounds like being brought to task to me. You start calling it a felony and next thing you know serial rapists will be doing less time. Dana >You'd be wrong. > >I do not "roll" stop signs. I come to a complete stop.
