It totally depends on the type of competition. AKC has 3 different types of 
stock trials and then you have other clubs like ASCA that put on theirs as 
well. I'm not sure many people do herding with Pyrs though. Livestock breeds 
usually don't have quite the speed and agility and prey drive needed for 
herding. In fact, they were specifically bred *not* for prey drive, since the 
last thing you want is a dog that will chase the flock around. ;-) There are 
instinct tests from time to time that you can take your dog to just to see if 
he's got any instinct to work (it may take several exposures to stock for some 
dogs), those are typically done by breed clubs. Not sure of a good one-stop 
source for herding on the web, you can google it and see if there are any clubs 
or trainers in your area.
