As someone who has worked in 2 massively regulated industries and been
part of many, many, many audits for SOX as well as a ton of other
state and federal regulations, I can say that I totally agree.

Here's the key point to regulation: it's not all good, it's not a
magic bullet, it does cause overhead and it does slow things down.

But it smooths out the peaks and valleys which, given the gov't's
takeover of Freddie and Fannie under a Republican president who fought
for privatization shows, there is no appetite for valleys.

Therefore, at the expense of the heights of peaks, regulation helps
raise the depth of the valleys and puts the cost only on those that
consume the product or service rather than all tax payers.

Thus gov't regulation is essentially a sales tax that consumers can
choose versus an income tax that is mandated.
