In my building alone, I personally know of 3 families that live off welfare, one of which proudly proclaims that 4 generations have _never_ worked in their entire lives.
All are of Irish descent, still have a thick almost unintelligible brogue after 5 generations in Boston, and would steal the copper from your apartment if they could get away with it. And this is a "luxury apartment" complex, and is not cheap for me (cheap for them, though, through section 8 housing). I have absolutely no problem with helping families in need, but I _really_ wish they would police the bad actors with a little more vigor, and hold them up in the public square as examples.
