Suffice to say, I don't generally agree with most people spouting off in the news. There is a reason I don't watch tv news. I also tend to strongly disagree with the hagiography that tends to accompany the death of any major figure. Happened when Nixon died, happened with Regan died, etc. > I wonder how people would feel if Michael Vick drove his car off a > bridge that resulted in the death of a woman and Ted Kennedy was into > dog fighting. Honestly, I think the prison terms and public opinion > towards both would be no different. Driving off a bridge is an accident. Torturing animals is not. That is the big difference. > I think what Vick did was despicable. I think what Kennedy did that > night on the Dike Bridge was despicable. I think that Kennedy's actions that night were likely stupid and cowardly. I suspect he'd agree. Because of the circumstances, we'll never know exactly what happened, but yeah, I'd definitely call it cowardly (from what I know of it which is all from a historical distance). As for Vick, I don't care if he gets employed by a football team. I find the NFL to be totally ridiculous. If the Eagles want to give him a job, go for it. Maybe he can even get some measure of redemption out of the whole deal. If so, great for him. Maybe, just maybe, he'll even go on to be a positive influence in the lives of people and help a bunch of folks. I doubt it, but I'm also a big believer in redemption. right now he's a punk who tortured and killed animals for "fun". That's going to take a lot of redemption. As for the reasoning behind why some folks think he shouldn't be allowed to return to the NFL, my guess is because it doesn't seem likely that he'll find the redemption that they'd like to see in the NFL. Generally speaking, being showered with millions of dollars, being being on national television and having tens of thousands of people cheering you in adulation each week is not the kind of circumstance that leads to introspection and a desire to better yourself. Here's hoping that Vick does take the chance he has now, turns a new page in his book and devotes his life, talent and riches to helping people out. If he does that, he'll get a hero's funeral when he dies too. That would be awesome.
