In my experience it is not defined as "weekend work" but "overtime 
work"  I.E.  I would not get paid extra because I worked on a Saturday 
or a Sunday, but I would get paid extra if that work caused me to work 
more then 40 hours in a week and|or more then 6 days without a day off.

Also I wouldn't get paid more per hour for working on a holiday like 
Labor Day, but I would get paid for the hours worked PLUS I would get 
the 8 hours of paid holiday I would get whether I worked or not, so it 
basically comes to getting paid double, but they are accounted separately .
