I am at that. Although I am a New Testament Baptist, (not southern Baptist) I
have issues with some of the doctrine. In fact I have issues with a lot of
doctrines. Most of these are born out of personal study as opposed to the
schema advanced by the individual church leaders. My father was a fundamental
Baptist preacher. And everyone knows about "Preacher's kids!" :-)

They are taught in the seminaries to use the expository method of
preaching/teaching the gospel, however, this ends up with them using
out-of-context passages of scripture to prove an absolute, which I consider to
be in error. This consequently makes their followers adopt the dogma without
doing personal study therefore are arguing a single person's interpretation, as
opposed to the general theme that the bible teaches which is salvation by faith.

One must realize that most any point can be "proven" by grabbing a single
chapter or verse from somewhere in the collection of books. It is a little more
difficult to be Catholic, because the Church has adopted additional books to be
a part of their doctrine.

Following the doctrine of separation of church and state, which, incidentally is
NOT a provision of the US constitution, I have issues with any biblical "law"
that is adopted into civil law, and then enforced against those who subscribe to
a different doctrine. I do not have issues with those who, by personal choice,
choose to obey these biblical laws. I do have issues with their use of these to
discriminate against others, or following some kind of agenda by which they wish
to control the lives of those who subscribe to a different doctrine or
interpretation.

I still feel and respect it in others to have a faith, especially when they are
devout in their belief. I don't see a reason to defend the faith, because I
consider faith a personal matter, and no minds are going to be changed on a
CF-Community list.

| Clearly. There seem to be several Jewish people for a start, and John,
| Larry and Doug seem a bit cynical on the subject of religion.
|
| I was just taking issue with the concept that if you aren't a
| fundamentalist southern baptist you are not a christian. I don't think this
| was Mattew's primary point but he does seem to believe it.
|
| Call it my rant for the day.
