do fax machine's keep any type of log? I'm sure they probably don't but if they did then you can print out the date you faxed them.
I would fight it though, as long as it doesn't take up too much of your time. If they got a phone call from you and told you to fax them then they should have made note on your account that they were waiting for a fax from you and if they didn't receive it, let you know instead of just charging you.
