Either.  Doesn't matter to me.

Fisrtly you need to cover your bandwidth, server maintanence, software costs, power, hardware maintainence, customer support

In the end you wouldnt want to be charging anything less than atleast $25-$35 per month.  Why would someone pay that for ADSL when they can go host with someone in a data center that is faster and more reliable?

Not to mention the legal side of things.  As the hoster, you are responsable then for maintaining the security of your clients data.

Not something I would want to get into alone

Steve

For arguments sake let's say it's not down for days. What then?

PS. I have been hosting on ADSL for almost 6 months now and it has never been down for days, the most it has been out for is an hour. Anyway, let's say we are not talking about corporate sites or high profile sites..

No one in their right mind would/should host off an ADSL link.

        Couple reasons why

        1.      Expense
        2.      Power blackout
        3.      ADSL server falls over
        4.      Software requirements
        5.      Hardware requirements

Its just not worth it for (a) the person doing the hosting and (b)
the client to have an unreliable source hosting theor website for the
above reasons.

Would anyone on this list pay to have their ColdFusion websites
cheaply hosted on a ADSL line, or on a ADSL line with your own
server? (And being able to put/use any CF tag or DLL on it....)

Do a lot of people have sufficient knowledge to host their own
websites, i.e. run Apache, IIS, SQL Server etc.?

Is this an area only interesting to sell to end-users and not CF
developers?

                Cheers for any response.

PS. I hope this is not an inappropriate question to ask on this
list...!!
