Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Apprasial and insurance

Time out! If some a-hole made turned left in front of you why was your insurance company paying off?

Because a few days after the accident he figured that it was better to lie.  He claimed I was going 45-55 mph, and because of my excessive speed he was just a sitting duck and could not help being hit.  What happened is that he lost his nerve.  He was making a left turn, saw me and stopped, blocking the inside lane.  When I saw him stop, I changed lanes from the inside to outside to avoid him.  He then decided to try to make the turn, but I had no time to do much other than slam on the brakes and hit him broadside.  As soon as there is a dispute of liability, each insurance carrier takes care of the their own, and then the companies sort it out (arbitration usually) later.  So, instead of going after his company, I had to go after MINE.  As I wrote back then, to think that I pay for that kind of service!

For reference, here is a map of the area (from city files) http://ep.com/brad/site.gif that shows that it was 550 feet from the stop sign I started from to the accident site, but only about 250 feet from where we could see each other.  While I know my Corvette was fast, I doubt that I could get to that speed in 300 feet!  The other agencies adjustor told me from her interviews that the other guy was *at least* 75% responsible for the accident (but this was before he changed his story some more for the deposition - which I have a transcript of).
