It appears to me, and John Lukacs, that Churchill got it right. Hitler or Stalin? That was the choice. Churchill in his wisdom realized that Britain (and the United States, and France) could not simultaneously oppose both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Churchill deduced that Nazi Germany was the greater threat to the West because a German victory would have resulted in Nazi control of the entire European land mass for a very long time, whereas a Soviet victory (as an (albeit strange) ally of the West) would result in Soviet control of only eastern Europe, and probably for not such a long time. Churchill was proven right, in 1989. CES
