While I agree it takes a significant amount of money to do things right I disagree in 
calling it "Investing" or an "Investment".  That terminology to me presents the 
assumption that you are looking for a financial return on investment. (My 
interpretation of course).  I prefer to look at it as an "Expenditure" as I would with 
anything else enjoyable, vacation, sport, etc.  I spend the money with no presumption 
or expectation of any return other then the love and enjoyment the dogs bring to my 
life.  It is money paid for enjoyment not an investment in a future return.  And what 
my dogs add back to my life is well worth every penny.
I know I'm nit-picking on terminology but I do think the mindset and philosophy of how 
some people look at this vary greatly between the two.
